Blues Gone South (BGS) took home “2009 Blues Group or Artist of the Year” honors at the recent 5th Annual South Bay (L.A.) Music Awards, which took place at the Improv in Irvine, beating out a field of over twenty worthy competitors.
The Orange County-based group headlined the first “Chicago Blues Night” at the House Of Blues/Anaheim in May, playing to an appreciative, sizeable crowd. In April they were featured on the nationally-syndicated radio show, BLUES DELUXE.
BGS is a longtime, established blues band which has played to rave reviews in shows from the South Bay to their home base in Orange County. Fronted by harpist-vocalist Papa J (Jeffrey Hudson) and also featuring drummer Kofi Baker (son of legendary Cream drummer, Ginger Baker), BGS play a smokin’ hot mix of original blues songs as well as classic Blues numbers in a wailing, Southside-of-Chicago style. The band is rooted in the tradition of early 20th century blues fueled by the energy of the new millennium. The excitement created by the front line, along with their unique originals tunes, makes this show far above that of a typical “blues” band.
