LiveBluesWorld

Have been talking with Eric about providing song reviews and he has told me to test the waters. So here goes. If you would like me to review a song that you own or have lisenced, send your request to my inbox. I will go to your site and listen to the song several times and decide if I will write a review. I will not write negative reviews. If I like what I hear I will write a review, post it to this Blog and recommend it to Eric for feature. If I choose not to write a review, I will send you a note. My proffessional qualifications to review music are ZERO. I just love music and creative people and have a pretty good ear for a well put together song. I have however, written a couple of hundred reviews on Garage Band. I maintained a very high reviewing status and recieved routine positive feedback on my objectivity.

Now a word about where this could go. I imagine that there could be several reviewers, who I think should write under a pen name. These reviewers could select a number of tunes to be posted on the main page for a peoples choice. This is just one of many possible ideas. Im sure all of you can come up with more and better ideas.

Welcome your comments and submissions!
John

John,
Not really asking for a review, I leave that up to you. But, I am curious what you think about this one:

The story behind this one is that I strongly feel that in some cases "less is more" and tried to reflect that in this song.
Between listening to the backingtrack, playing along once or twice, recording and posting it lies 30 minutes. So it is not a song that is worked out a lot :)

If you prefer it, the song "Leaving spaces" :) is also on my LiveBluesWorld page.

Song Review: Hard Times by Hairy Larry A catchy tune that is gonna stick with you all day! Larry delivers his thoughts about hardtimes and silver linings in the traditional Blues Busking fashion. By the end of the song I was thinking "There is no such thing as Hard Times if I look at the other side". I once had the pleasure of watching Carlos Guitarlos playing on a corner in San Francisco. Those memories came flashing back as soon as Larry started singing. Like Carlos, Larry can pen a verse with child like simplicity that imprints itself on your memory like Iko Iko. Before you know it, your walking around the house singing "I dont need no money no mo". Well done Larry. Look in your guitar case, I just tossed you a twenty.

John,

I write about music all the time and it's very fulfilling. I'd like to submit a couple of songs that I wrote for review.

I am very familiar with the music of HBL (HalfBlindLefty) and your review is spot on! HBL is the person who told me about this site and the reason I joined today. HBL and I have done several collaborations together, but he is by far a better guitarist than I could hope to be - but yet he is the most supportive and humble friend I have. I'm so glad you chose to review his song and thank you for this great site!

Thanks you so much John,
You totally blew me away with this review.

Just being curious, which one did you listen to, the original with a guitar backing only or the SE version with the added synth ?

Review: Memories of What Could Have Been. By Halfblind Lefty
A soulful and sensuous guitar instrumental that puts your spirit in a calm and restful place. Fluid but never busy, deliberate but obviously from the heart, Lefty knows exactly what he feels and expresses himself flawlessly. He is a master of his instrument, technique and form. This track is a must hear for all who enjoy a demonstration of beautiful guitar melody.

Well personally I have never written a song, even though I am writing a book right now I don't even consider myself a writer at all. BUT, one thing I do know is music, I can and have gotten up and sang with a band before did a tune I had never heard before yet sang right along with the lead singer, when we finish the song he just looked at me and shaking his head and said.. I don't know how you just did that I know you have never heard that song before I just wrote it. I ended up singing with them a year or so lol. So personally John I think having a good ear for music is half the equaztion. Great idea, maybe you could put a review this song box in the right side section so everyone see it daily? Hmmm I will be thinking on this idea but I like where it is going.
