Chicago Blues Records is pleased to announce a new live CD release by Chainsaw Dupont & the Blues Warriors, featuring the Chain Gang Horns. The release marks the launch of Chicago Blues Records, dedicated to the promotion of original blues songwriters following in the footsteps of Chicago’s legendary Willie Dixon.
“The Real Guitar Hero” was recorded in January 2007 in Chicago, and stakes Dupont’s claim as one of the most innovative guitarists in blues, featuring 11 songs recorded live with a 6-piece band, just prior to the release of 2007’s “Ghost Kings of Beale St.” That release had completed a ‘Street Trilogy’ celebrating the 3 great cities of the blues (Chicago, New Orleans, and Memphis).
The set includes songs from the Trilogy, plus two covers which have become mainstays of his live sets, James Brown’s “Cold Sweat” and an Albert King arrangement of Smokey Robinson’s “I’ll Be Doggone”. These represent the first two non-original songs guitarist Dupont has recorded, and pay tribute to some of his own heroes, even while he’s putting his ‘Delta Crush Guitar’ spin on the material. The record also includes a fine slow blues that has never been previously released, “Heaven Eyes”, which had been considered but was not included on his debut release, “Lake St. Lullaby”.
The CD release celebrations will feature two long sets with special guests including vocalist Charlie Brown, Saturday, March 20, at House of Blues at 329 N. Dearborn, 312-923-2000, and Friday, March 26 at Rosa’s Lounge, 3420 W. Armitage, 773-342-0452. Advance tickets are available for both sh
This recording was originally planned as a double CD, but was split into two projects, one “HI-FI” (“The Real Guitar Hero”) and one “LO-FI”, to retain audio consistency within the releases. The second project, “Acoustified / Electrified”, is projected for release in May 2010.
