There have been some great posts on other blogs lately...time to highlight a few.

Over on the Diddy Wah blog, you'll find a fine post on the late, great Junior Kimbrough.

On the Soul of Rock and Roll blog, they have written up the upcoming 30th anniversary concert of the Rock Against Racism event "that saw some 100,000 people protesting on the streets of London", and included a performance by the Clash. A seminal event, and sadly, the message is still a vital one.

Rick Saunders breaks his silence again, and this time he is excited about the Deep Blues Festival this July. I get the sense he'll be posting a lot about the festival and the bands in the months leading up this three day extravaganza. I expect we will as well.

Over at the Lefsetz Letter, a fresh rant that I think will resonate with a lot of about the current state of the music business...and what it really means to connect with your fans and build a real career. I won't tell you how it starts, but this is how it ends:

Play to the fans first. Know that they’ve got a shit detector nonpareil. They need honesty. They need to know they’re in line ahead of Volkswagen. They need the good seats at the gig. They need free live shows distributed on your Website. They’ll buy t-shirts, they’ll pay for concert tickets. They might even buy a vinyl album. But first and foremost they’ll tell everybody they believe in you. The zeal in their voices will come straight from the heart. Their only goal is to show others the light, that what they’re into saves lives.

And music will save your life. It’s religion. Treat it that way.

Amen to that.

The Old Blue Bus has an interesting post on the music business of yesteryear, and takes a lot at some race and hillbilly records that were re-recorded by many different artists to appeal to a broader audience.

And finally, on the lighter side, WFMU struggles with the challenge of the ever growing myspace friends list. We'll see if this approach catches on.
