Drum sessions/gigs (who needs a "click track") Drum Kit lessons. 30 years experience, all styles. Johnny Podd, believe it or not started playing drums with local bands in his mid teens but always wanted to be upfront. He got his chance when along with other musical friends formed a comedy banjo band with Johnny playing a home made instrument called a Gozunderheiter (Stompstick). After appearing on Oportunity Knocks in 1972, the band went on the cabaret scene with the likes of Acker Bilk and Tommy Cooper to name but a few. By the 80's he had his own country band playing the south east and by the late 80s Vanity Fare rode into town. Johnny and Mark met up and after comparing musical tastes a beautiful friendship developed and to this day this friendship is stronger than ever, which shows, when these two cowboys are up on stage playing their music.

PJ Proby

It was purely by chance that No Comebacks met up with legendary 60's star............ PJ Proby.

Whilst performing at Spirit Of The West in Cornwall UK PJ who was in the audience joined in with the guys on stage. (pictured here) It was just so obvious that they should team up.
The result is this CD dedicated to the singing silver screen cowboys.

No Comebacks, a Scot and an Englishman were only too happy to have a genuine Texan on board. Especially a guy not only rooted in the genre. PJ actually performed with the Roy Rogers' travelling show in the late 50's, but one of the best vocalists to emerge from the swinging 60's pop rock scene.

The result of the encounter is this recording.... No Comebacks with special guest PJ Proby,,, Back In The Saddle Again.

It just HAD to be done. Happy Trails

P.J. Proby is one of the most exciting and talented performers of our time.

Proby was born James Marcus Smith in Houston on November 6, 1938, and grew up listening to country and black gospel; later on, he became fascinated by rockabilly, a contemporary and friend of Elvis, his stepsister even dated the young Presley, in the early days he mirrored the King further by fostered an acting career alongside his singing career and appearing in several Western shows and an episode of Gunsmoke, as well as being employed by Colonel Parker to demo songs for his old pal. As well as Elvis at this time he worked with Tommy Sands , George Jones, Tennessee Ernie Ford, The Collins Kids and many others at places like The Hitching Post, The Eagles Hall, The South Maine Olde Spanish Trail for the leading D.J.s at the time, Cliffie Stone & Biff Collie.

Proby got his big break when he was invited by Beatles manager Brian Epstein to take part in a Beatles wide world special produced by his pal Jack Good.

Proby's first British single, "Hold Me" -- a rocked-up rearrangement of a 1939-vintage pop ballad -- rocketed into the U.K. Top Five in early 1964. Proby's next two singles, "Together" and West Side Story's "Somewhere," followed suit. On one fateful night in 1965 at Fairfield hall, Croydon in London he experience a famous wardrobe malfunction (decaded before Janet Jackson). His trade mark wild stage antics and tight fitting velvet bell bottoms resulting in a burst out situation, the ensuing press furore doubtless helped make him a genuine 60's pop star. However the British systems that govern the music scene were less enthusiastic. Proby was banned from all theatres in Great Britain and not allowed to perform his recordings on the B.B.C. or A.T.V. television stations, which probably contributed to him not achieving the ultimate success his amazing voice and showman ship deserved.

From the 70's onwards he appeared in concert throughout the world moving also into theatre appearances in many highly successful musicals. Jack Good cast P.J. as Cassio in the Rock Musical "Catch my Soul" (an adaptation of Shakespeare's "Othello"). He scored the lead role in the award winning musical "Elvis" that played London's West End in 1977. Other starring included, Roy Orbison story "Only The Lonely" and life story of Jack Good "Good Rockin Tonite" as well as a return to the musical "Elvis". He was invited by The Who to play the part of The Godfather in the stage show of Quadrophenia. He has continued to record perform and release retrospective CD's and DVD's recently headlining a sell out concert hall tour with No Comebacks Marks Dean Ellen's other band Vanity Fare.

Every day we are jumping from one task to another – looking at the watch as a guide. No wonder heart attack is one of the main causes to death. We forget to pause, to look around and to enjoy friendship and family. The world is beautiful – you only have to allow yourself to see it - to experience it. Look at the watch, painted by Jette – given the title “Time is relative”.
