Robert Ward (1938-2008)

I meant to post this news a long time ago, and I deeply regret that I’m only doing it now. One of the blues’ most truly unheralded guitarists, 70-year-old Robert Ward, died on Christmas Day following an extended illness. Aside from being one of the genre’s great comeback stories, Ward’s sonic signature made him a hero to guitar enthusiasts… Continue

Hello Sean
I just really love the read in your comments by folks who obviously appreciate with the highest degree American Blues Legend Johnny Winter. I feel so appreciative of your work in this matter as well as Paul Nelson being at the right place at the right time for a historically perfect purpose.
Thanks Again for Sharing Everything

Hi Sean,
Here is my wish for the very best to all my LiveBluesWorld friends as we take the music of our heritage into 2009 and the 21st century.
It's an honor to be on this journey with you. ..and a pleasure to be your friend. Thank you for allowing me to be a member of the community.

Great story on Johnny-glad to know he is doing so well-Paul Nelson's a real saint! I first saw "If and Then" featuring Johnny and Edgar Winter at my High School CYO dance in the late 60's-some time later Edgar was my band camp counselor at Lamar Tech in Beaumont-right about the time the famous article in Rolling Stone came out and Johnny's career took off. We were so thrilled "our boy" had broken out and can't really describe the excitement at an early 70's JW show in Houston or Austin.

Hopefully ala the work he did with Muddy he will get a chance to record some really great blues to cement his legacy. How great would it be if Rick Rubin did a record with Johnny ala his current project with ZZ Top!

Great insight into Johnny via the bus, etc-good writing man.

Hey Sean,

I've had the pleasure and honor of meeting or playing with many legendary blues musicians over the years including Albert King, Willie Dixon, Buddy Guy, Etta James, Lowell Fulson etc etc etc but spending time with my two biggest heroes Muddy and BB were as close as I'll ever get to walking with the gods! Both men showed me nothin but love and i'll always be forever grateful for their kindness and hope i can grow old with the same amount of grace and dignity! Yeah i worship my heroes!

Johnny Winter is probably the most under-rated performer in Blues today. He helped re-kindle the careers of many older blues players and got a lot of younger people (me included) fired up about the Blues. I've opened for him twice, but didn't get to talk to him much. Both times he put on a jaw-dropping performance. His guitar and vocals were powerful and clear, and his steel guitar numbers were the best I've even seen or heard.

I've played Johnny's music at almost every one of the gigs I've played since 1978. I doubt I'll ever get a chance to perform with him, as I had dreamed in my youth, but I get tremendous joy out of playing his music and watching others enjoy it. I hope that in the future he'll be as well respected as Muddy Waters or Wille Dixon.
