Profile Information

About Me:
I came to blues through rock 'n roll. I started with Elvis and took it on through the Brit blues-rock bands of the '60s. That led me to the old guys, and they led me to the new guys. In the mid-1990s, I relocated from Ohio to St. Louis and began frequent visits to the Mississippi Delta -- the "Land Where Blues Began." In May 2002, I quit my corporate marketing job, and moved to Clarksdale, Mississippi to open a blues store called Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Art (cathead.biz). It is now a platform for a variety of projects and other insanities, including but not limited to: Cat Head store/web site, Cat Head Presents record label, Juke Joint Festival co-founder, WROX blues deejay (Sat 6-8pm CST at wroxradio.com), XM Radio's Delta correspondent (Thurs 4pm CST Ch. 74), Blues Revue magazine columnist ("Down in the Delta," bluesrevue.com), Ground Zero Blues Club music coordinator (groundzerobluesclub.com), Big George Brock manager, etc. The latest project I'm working on is in conjunction with Broke & Hungry Records. It's called "M For Mississippi: A Road Trip Through The Birthplace Of The Blues" and will result in a DVD film and soundtrack CD releasing in Fall 2008. Please go to www.MforMississippi.com for more information and to view the trailer. Oh... If you plan to visit the Delta, please hit my cathead.biz web site first for live music info and a Clarksdale guide. -- Roger Stolle

P.S. By the way, about the photo... I'm the guy in the center (back) of the photo. That's blues guitarist/recording engineer Bill Abel on the left and his brother on the right. Broke & Hungry Records' Jeff Konkel took this (I think) comical shot during one of his, uh... unpredictible recording sessions.
Favorite Blues Artists and Bands
WALKING AMONG US: Big George Brock, Honeyboy Edwards, Robert Belfour, Jimmy "Duck" Holmes, T-Model Ford, Bilbo Walker, Odell Harris, Terry "Harmonica" Bean, Mississippi Marvel, Big Jack Johnson, Super Chikan, LC Ulmer, RL Boyce, Terry "Big T" Williams, Wesley Jefferson, Pat Thomas, Bill Abel, Sam Carr, Gearshifter, CeDell Davis, Lonnie Mack, Robert Ward.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: Junior Kimbrough, RL Burnside, Son House, Charley Patton, Tommy Johnson, Skip James, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Eugene Powell, Little Walter, Sonny Boy II, Emore James, Freddie King, Lonnie Pitchford, Snooky Pryor, Johnny Shines, Big Walter, Fenton Robinson, Jimmy Reed, etc... Just too many to name.

Ooooohh. I absolutely can't wait. Let me know as soon it's available so I can send you my money!

Everything is pretty good up here. We're getting ready for Buckeye football (apparently - not a sports guy).

Strangely enough, the last time you and I talked, it was storming at GZBC and it's storming up here right now!

Roger... what a cool story. Leaving the big world to open a blues place... I envy you in some ways! I thought you might like to see some of my stuff, I'm at
www.freewebs.com/bluesglass/
maybe you might want to carry some of the pieces?
Kev Barry :)
P.S.- my first blues tune was "Shake, Rattle and Roll" by Big Joe Turner, when I was about 5 years old! I used to listen to "race" records at a neighbors house. Remember "Tweedle-Dee"?
