Bio/info.
Right On John is the stage name of Portland, OR based multi-instrumentalist/songwriter John McColley.
John started taking piano lessons at the age of ten and picked up the guitar as soon as he was big enough to hold one. By age 16 he was playing shows in local all ages clubs with his first band "Decadence". By age 25 he had been in numerous bands and had played at major label showcases and supported national touring acts. He soon put down the guitar and picked up the art of forestry.
John worked for a few years doing reforestation work in the mountains of AZ, NM, CO and WY planting over 1,000,000 trees in burned areas, but the music bug wouldn't leave him alone. He moved to Portland, OR in 2006 and started performing as a one man band.
ROJ is a solo act, but make no mistake, this is no sensitive singer/songwriter stuff. John plays like his life depends on it. Uninitiated audience members are often shocked to discover that one man can create so much noise. John's sound combines blues, rock, punk and experimental music into something that can only be described as "Right On John". In a little over two years he has gone from terrorizing the local open mic scene to touring the country and performing at festivals.
Right On John has released two albums, 2007's "Thanx for Nothing!" on his own Dumbass Records label, and 2008's "son of black" on SB United.
A new cd of live cigar box guitar songs entitled "the cbgep" is cooking in the oven, as well as a live dvd.
