Name the one Johnny Winter album that doesn't have one lick of blues on it.

Can you name it? It is a killer album and unique in Johnny's catalog.See More

Milestone Albums in Johnny's Career

Thumbnail
First I want to say that all of Johnnys album's are GREAT!  I am just trying to layout some milestones from the studio album perspective.  I'll put my list below and look forward to comments and other lists.  Should be a fun discussion.  There certainly are other albums that could be in a milestones list (And?).  Here is my list: Johnny Winter (aka, the Black Album): First "official" album and a masterpiece—perhaps Johnny's greatest album ever. Still Alive and Well: The comeback album (from…See More

Essential Johnny Winter Albums

Thumbnail
Man I've thought about this a lot and I can never come up with a selection smaller than all of Johnny Winter's albums.   But I must say that the Progressive Blues Experiment, the Black Album, and Second Winter are the most important to me, probably because I grew up with them in my high school days.  You would also have to have (from a bluesier perspective) Nothing But the Blues, all three Alligator albums from the mid 80s, Let Me In and Hey Where's Your Brother (these two could have been a…See More

Check it out:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BL0BHC/ref=pe_5080_15204340_snp_dpto be released July 13. I may have to nab one of these in a couple years when used copies appear on the web.  Already have multiple copies of both albums, so no justification for more, but would be nice to see the artwork.  Nice cover photo.  Would be great gift to intro someone to Johnny's earlier blues.See More

Johnny's Dylan Covers

Thumbnail
I just bought a copy of Bob Dylan's album, Highway 61 Revisited because it has three songs Johnny Winter covered (and because I really like Dylan's music): Highway 61 Revisited (Second Winter and other albums and concerts) Like A Rolling Stone (Raisin Cain) From a Buick 6 (Still Alive And Well--bonus track without lead guitar) I am trying to think if Johnny covered any other Dylan songs, anybody know? There is an old song among the early recordings from the period about 1959-1968 called Avacado…See More

CD Universe had a pretty good price too. Hey, I think the CD comes digipak, instead of a cheezy jewel case. At least Poco was. That steel guitar on the Poco CD is bugging me now, like I have to hear it. Won't be anything like Johnny, but still…

Well I am dissapointed CCMusic sent me the wrong CD, Poco Live at Columbia Studios." Looks interesting, even see a steel faced guitar on the back cover being played in the guy's lap. Could be pretty cool, but not--I want my Johnny Winter!…

Wow! Nice. I ordered the Filmore CD last month and still don't have it. I can't wait for the longer versions. I have Dervish Blues, same songs as Captured Live but for one song like you said. Captured Live has much better sound quality…

Does anyone have the record album, Johnny Winter Austin Texas? It was a later re-release of Progressive Blues Experiment. Has a cool cover photo and a writeup on the back (or was it the sleeve). Anyway, I had that album in the 70s and remember only…

Profile Information

About Me:
Started Listening to Johnny Winter in early 70s when I was 15. My favorite instruments are guitar and piano. For guitar I prefer Johnny and Jimi. For piano, I prefer classical.

My favorite web sites are:
www.BobistheOilGuy.com
www.pdvDetroit.com (my church)
Favorite Blues Artists and Bands
Johnny Winter #1. Other favorites: Bob Dylan (more the older folky stuff), Jimi Hendrix, Allman Brothers, and Alan Haynes. I listen to Muddy Waters, Sonny Terry, and others when they are playing with Johnny Winter. I also like classical music--Beethoven Piano Sonatas are GREAT! Absolute favorite classical work is Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. I don't have much use for rock and roll music except when Johnny or Jimi are playing it.

CD Is by Alligator Records 1984, front says "Whoopin', side says "Whoppin', bought it at the Bluesrockfestival in Holland where Johnny played in 2006, two days earlier I saw him for the first time at the Amsterdam Paradiso. Magnificent evening, seeing the man you admire so much for the first time in person.
