Profile Information

About Me:
We are a live blues jam band playing mostly our own stuff...we masquerade as Billy The Mountain too....it's all about the music and the Love it generates...Billy The Mountain is a band for our time, our century. First of all we’re based away from the mainstream world, headquartered in Bangkok which is a divine urban potpourri of style and in your face poverty and decadence and squalor and modernism - a somehow timeless culture steeped in tradition and bathed in music and surrounded by a perfect rural backdrop.

So we are outside the mainstream but right at the heart of Thailand and by definition the world so-to-speak, enjoying the influence of the dynamics of new life itself - good, bad, evil and otherwise. It’s a creative crucible for us and the perfect starting point for world domination!

The band’s key musicians write the material, record the songs and get the band ready to tour the world when we have three hours of brand new material. We have one hour now.

But the kicker is we won’t have a huge economically crippling tour machine. The key musicians will fly to any part of the world we are touring, and having sent the music ahead by CD or over the Net, we will have our 'fellow-traveller' musicians rehearsed and waiting to join the band for that stage of the tour.

How can bands sing about pollution and global warming and set an example when they are touring with ten trucks and 200 staff? That’s bullshit and because we play for expenses and give any profit to our children’s fund, we can happily trim the excesses.

So we aim to use this cool site to recruit our 'travelling' band...we already got our UK drummer...right Ken?
Favorite Artists and Bands
Little Feat, Free, Spirit, Steely Dan....The New York Times said: "BILLY THE MOUNTAIN were born in the blues and then took a breath of Steely Dan, Little Feat, Dylan and Pink Floyd and came out the other end smiling. You'll hear that journey in their music which is delivered by some very fine musicians too. They say it’s great Sunday morning music!”

The band comprises Alex Pithie, a Scot, Dane Nicolai Kehlet and a team of seasoned local and international session players. The band has embarked on a plan to supply three albums over a two-year period and to tour the albums internationally while retaining rights to ticket, merchandise and album sales on the road. Profits after expenses go to ensure children without medicine and clean water get the rest! Get onboard!

Hey Mr Pithie, how's it going, apols for not getting back to you sooner but things are a bit hectic just now, giggin with two bands recording an album for another in my modest homebuilt 24 track studio, givin time to the family and the dog, an then of course there's my " real job " with QA in a market that still pretty busy. Anyway, it's a night off, a bottle o vino, and wee catch up.
September it is then, I'm planning on 5-6 days over either of the following weekends 4/5/6 sep, or 11/12/13 sep. If any of these are a problem I could do 28/29/30 aug. I'm going to use Emirates via Dubai and stop off there and see some family so should make a great trip. I'm hoping to bring my son Blu on the trip , he's 21 and will have just completed his honours year in Forensic Science at uni so he'll be needing the break and also he's a bloody good drummer and I think he'd derive a lifetime memory from it. I'm also planning to bring my own axe which is quite unique, and I'll tell you more about later.

Anyway, Oldmeldrum was a hoot, it's a tiny bar but with a great bunch o cheuchters who like their rock and blues. My next two venues are the Bridge Inn in Port Elphinstone and the Creel Inn at Catterline, really branchin out now eh :) I do have some interesting one's coming up in the Summer though which I'll tell you more about later, but one of them is the Smokie Blues Festival, in Carnoustie in August, there's about twenty bands / artists from around the world playing over a weekend and is being sponsored by my company. I'll send you more details on it tomorrow, you never know, we might see you there.
Good luck with the recording on the new album, you're the best songwriter I've personally know, ok I've only known one, he he no, only joking, you deserve you opportunity. If I can help at all I will, once we got our communication flowing we can exchange mp3's etc of ides and hopefully end up with a collaboration on a couple of numbers. I'll set up a web page where I'll upload stuff for you and you do the same so we can get some exchanges going. Oh and by the way Born in Auchtermuchty does have a certain appeal, and it is Homecoming Year here :)

Guitars, yeah I'm still into Gibsons, my two main axes just now are a Custom & Historic re-issue of the '62 335, which I picked up in Nashville about 8 years ago, and one of the limited edition first release of the Robot, an amazin machine that's makes changing to alternate tunings a cinch. I've started playing bottleneck again on some tunes and it's great for that stuff, and it's a nice Les paul too. I've still got the Les Paul I had with the Hi Kats, I bought it in 1975 originally a gold top, but after around 2000 gigs in 30 years it was beginning to take it's toll. So I've had it completely restored to it's original state and now it only gets used in the studio. I've amassed a wee collection of axes now including, a PRS Johnny Hiland signature, ( if you've never heard this guy check him out on youtube, he's shit hot. I've got a Gibson Little Lucille - a version of the Blue Hawk modified by BB King, a Ritchie Blackmore Signature ( with the scalloped fretboard - weird but really fast and warm ) a Martin D45 acoustic - simply stunning, and a dozen others that Isabel keeps reminding me I said I would sell when I got the next one :) well you cannae have too many axes can ye ?

As regards fx, I have Crowther Hot cake, which I imagine is the same and you're right it does produce some amazing tones. I haven't tried the Blue Boy yet but will put it on the " what to get dad for his birthday list " so I'll let you know. I use a Digitech GNX3 board for my stage work, I've got half a dozen custom presets programmed in it that gives me enough variety for most gigs, and it keeps the switching simple. I've also been messing with a couple of Voodoo Lab pedals, the Proctavia and the Micro Vibe, which also produce some really cool tones, especially again when used together.

Obviously, if you're home in April we'll need to get together, so please let me know. For my direct email you can use these addresses charlie@qabt.co.uk and studio@weyn.co.uk, if you send to one and cc the other I'll always be sure of picking them up.

Nice to talk to you again and look forward to more soon. From the 22nd I'm into a quieter period and taking some days off so I'll get some things organised.

Hey Mr Pithie, how the hell are you, good to hear from you. Yeah still going the full nine yards, well actually going 8n 1/2 and crawling the last half, but what the hell, the time to stop will be when I have to crawl the 8n 1/2, so plenty left yet. I've been listening to some of your material on the site and as always it's very stirring and emotive, and still has your distinctive guitar sound. I'm off out in ten minutes, playing a gig in Oldmeldrum tonight, not quite the World but it's a start ! I'll be in touch again soon because one thing I can assure you is I definitely will be out to Thailand for a jam this year. I'm thinking either may/june or sep/oct, maybe you can tell me if one time is better than the other. Speak to you later.
