About Me:
Stackhouse Drop Top Records Artist Memphis Gold

Memphis Gold has come a long way in his short 16 year tenure in the U.S. Mid Atlantic, including the crowning achievement of recording 4 CD`s. He has shared the stage with such Artist as Bernard Allison, James Brown, R.L. Burnside, Debra Coleman, Shemeika Copland, Robert Cray, , John Hammond, , Little Jimmy King, Johnny Lang, Taj Mahal, Bob Margolin, Bobby Parker, Little Jimmy Reed, Martha Reeves, , Charlie Sayles, Guitar Shorty, Mavis Staples, Hubert Sumlin and many more celebrities.

Chester Chandler, aka (Memphis Gold) was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 4, 1955. Chester was the thirteenth child of fourteen, born to John and Reada Chandler. John his father and also a musician, played the bass fiddle and piano in the Church of God in Christ- where at the tender age of 4, Chester was first introduced to the guitar. Chester was quickly recognized as a promising musician, by the age of 8, he was a regular at Beale Street in Memphis, where he played the guitar and danced for pocket change from the crowd.

As a young boy age 12, he was mentored by the 1928-35 Victor/Brunswick/Vocalion
Recording Artist, The Reverend Robert ""Tim ""Wilkins. Wilkins major claim to fame was the tune ""That`s No Way To Get Along,"" which was appropriated by the Rolling Stones in 1966 and released as ""Prodigal Son"" on the best selling album Beggars Banquet.

Nevertheless, I`m happy to report that, No, Memphis Gold did not tell me that he sold his soul to the devil down at the ""crossroads"" of highway 49 and 61 in order to play like the guitar wizard that he is,""says Larry Benicewicz of the Music Monthly/Maryland Musician. ""He is the genuine article, perhaps a thowback to the blues men of yore who learned their licks at the knee of legendary partriarch like Charlie Patton. And having done so, serves as one of the last links to the days when cotton was king on the Mississippi Delta."" Also, in February of 1996, Chester Chandler rescued 9 children from a train crash in Silver Springs, Md., which was coming from the Harpers Ferry Job Corps, West Virginia. Ironically he, had performed a blues seminar for the children several months before. Chester Chandler aka (Memphis Gold) has appeared on the Leeza Show, NBC Dateline, and the Discovery Channel for his heroic effects..He has a host of Brothers and relatives who Pastor churches with in the Church of God In Christ. As matter of fact His fathers father, was one of the founders of the COGIC denomination in the 1800`s.

Chester is proud to say that he is the cousin of the Pop/Gospel Singer Denise Williams, who co- recorded with Johnny Mathis and also cousin to activist Dick Gregory. He performed 9 USO Tours to far flung countries such as Hungary, Turkey, Germany, Crotia, Macedonia, Eygpt, Sinai, Japan, Korea, Marshall Islands, Guam, Okinawa, Honduras, Cuba and many more, giving time back to the troops. He gives his time back by perform for the troops, as he is a Vietnam Era Veteran, and served 13yrs. and knows, how it is to be along way from home. Blues Artist Memphis Gold performed at the Poconos Blues Festival, July 25th 2004, and headlined the Amal`s Blues Festival, July 8th-11th, 2005 ,Gothenburg Sweden, and toured the Koh Samui Islands of Thailand, January 2006. He performed May 26th and 27th, 2006 at the Monsteras Blues Festival, Monteras Sweden, D.C. Blues Society Festival, September 2nd, 2006 Washington D.C., and the John F. Kenndey Center October of 1999 and 2008. He is also on the cover of the oldest Blues Magazine of its kind in the World, (Issue # 147) Jefferson Magazine and the cover of the prestigous London (UK) Blues&Rhythm Magazine (Issue #233) October, 2008, Living Blues Magazine Feb, 2009 (Issue #199)
