Profile Information

About Me:
I'm 61 years old and have loved the blues since I first listed to Lightnin' Hopkins around 1968.

I've had several careers and assorted gigs. Now I'm mainly into enjoying my grandson Jeremy, and playing music.

I didn't play for almost fifteen years, until my grandson asked me to teach him. Now I'm back into it again. I'm trying to recover lost skills.

One thing you never lose, though, is the blues.
Favorite Blues Artists and Bands
Lightnin' Hopkins
Rev. Gary Davis
Mississippi John Hurt
Danny Kalb
Buddy Guy
With all of the really well done music on this site I was reluctant to add this. It's just me "noodling" around with my digital recorder.

Still, it's all I have that isn't 30 years old. Make what you will of it.

I recorded Boy-O-Boogie several times today. Each time I fumbled over a different section. I finally gave up and downloaded it. I guess I'll always be a dirty picker.

One other note. I'm playing an old Alvarez-Yairi DY-45 with a Martin Thinline pickup. This pickup could probably use an add on preamp, which is why the recording is so much softer and thinner sounding than Blues Noodle. It's a great sounding axe acoustically, though.

Hi Larry,
Here is my wish for the very best to all my LiveBluesWorld friends as we take the music of our heritage into 2009 and the 21st century.
It's an honor to be on this journey with you. ..and a pleasure to be your friend. Thank you for allowing me to be a member of the community.

I love that vibe! I have a little Behringer BX-108 amp that I like as much for its throwback look as its sound. The music I love best is the music that harkens back to that time, like yours. It is powerful, straightforward, and honest.

Larry, thanks for the invite! I just listened to the Blues Noodle, if that was the Stillwater strat you were using, it sounds like I sold them way too cheap! Wish I'd had a clip of that on my site for "demostration" purposes.

Hi Larry,Lightnin is indeed the man I would give a lot to be able to travel back in time to get to see him play.
I have a lot of his music and a good D.V.D. just can't get enough.

I think I was kidding about the penal thing. I'll check with myself later and get back to you.

I have a theory about home made music. Music people make in their living rooms, home studios, town hall bluegrass jams, get togethers, wherever, might be some of the most satisfying music around. It's not packaged, slick, or commercial. It's just music, made by people.

It's very hip and I think a lot of it is really fine. That's why I like your stuff and so much of the music folks on this site make.

It's BLOW, WHISTLE BLOW. It's on a vinyl (which we used to call "albums" or "records"), a compilation of young white guys singing blues. I bought it around 1963. Actually, I borrowed it and liked it so much I forgot to return it. It's called the BLUES project. My understanding is that the 60's group with the same name took it from the record. Lead guitar and vocalist Danny Kalb was featured on 2 cuts. If I can figure out a way to transfer the record to my computer I'll download BLOW WHISTLE BLOW, and another cut or 2.
