Full-Time Blues

Profile Information

About Me:
I started listening to the Blues probably high school. i had been exposed to it off and on from an early age, from a couple of my aunts. They were really into Stevie Ray Vaughan, so that guitar driven Texas Blues was my first taste of madness, and I really dug it.
After that, I started to explore. Where does this artist draw his influence? And so on, tracing the music back, and just getting my hands on anything I could find. I've always been a music addict and collector, so my collection grows continuously each time someone turns me on to another artist or band, as well as when I find one myself.
About the same time I was REALLY getting into the Blues and establishing a catalogue, I was deciding what I wanted to do in college and for the rest of my life. It just so happened that radio was that choice. I received two degrees in Broadcasting/Telecommunications, and always fostered the idea in the back of my brain that a Blues show was what I really wanted to do.
Fast forward several years and several jobs later, and I am working in radio, with an opportunity that arises to do some volunteer work on the side at the University of Evansville radio station, WUEV. WUEV and it's staff are wonderful, and they play Blues every Saturday from Noon-6:00 PM (Seems like a natural fit, huh? I thought so, too.)
On June 7, 2008, Full-Time Blues aired it's first episode. (The same day the 2008 edition of the W.C. Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival got underway in nearby Henderson, KY.) I call it Evansville's best kept secret in radio, but that's not a voluntary moniker. I want the world to know we're here!
You can now listen to "Full-Time Blues" during "A Case of the Blues" on 91.5 WUEV-FM, Evansville. The show airs Saturdays, from 12:00-2:00 in the afternoon, and broadcasts online at, just click the following link.Listen Online

Full-Time Blues features Blues News, a concert alendar, and artist interviews. We love to hear from the listeners, as well.
I'm glad you stopped by the page, and I want you to know if you're a fan of the Blues, a Blues artist or organization, or someone who wants to learn a little more about this original American genre, I want to help you in any way I can.
Need help spreading the word about your music/performance/event?
Need someone to point you toward some interesting Blues references for information?
Need a recommendation on some great Blues music and artists?
I want to be your source. Shoot me a message and I'll gladly provide you with additional contact information. If you're an artist or band, let's do an interview for the show!
And if you simply want to rap a while about music, and the Blues in particular, that's my favorite pasttime.

CD Review - Cyril Neville - "Brand New Blues" - MC Records 2009

For this review and SO Much More, Log On To

I admittedly don't have a lot of Neville music, by any of the brothers, in my collection. It's not a conscious omission from my expansive music collection, just one of those things you don't pick up on until you have that light bulb moment telling you to get a hold of an artist's work, or you'll always have that hole. Unfortunately with the Nevilles, that's a big… Continue

CD Review - Greg Nagy - Walk That Fine Thin Line - Big O Records 2009

For this Review and so much more, LOG ON to

I have been listening to this CD nearly non-stop since it arrived in my mailbox last week: Mostly because it is an excellent disc; but partly, also, because I was having trouble deciding where to begin with this review.

The album is terrific, and gets off on the right foot with the title track. Greg Nagy and back up vocalists belt out "Until we… Continue

Update on Johnny Full-Time

Hey all, It's Johnny Full-Time! I just wanted to drop a line and bring everyone up to speed on a LOT of things that have taken place over the last couple of weeks.

First off, I was let go from my day job a little over a week ago. I was working a gig doing radio news, and thought it was pretty secure, but unfortunately, that may have been naive. The company shut down their entire news operation, and went to a local TV station for their news content.

I'm not upset in the slightest… Continue

Whoa! How have I missed you here? Glad to connect with you here! When I opened your page, the song that played reminded me of my Pop Daddy, Robert Lee Smith of the Tams! Which song was it?

The Blues Brothers don't get enough credit for the resurgence of the Blues. After that movie, a lot of teenagers began to listen to the Blues (and show up at my gigs). It helped breath life into a diminishing art form. The Blues Brothers band was a superior assemblage of performers, too.
