About Me:
I'm a woman who's loved the blues most of my life and I like dogs and horses too.....
Started for me around '63/64 in Windsor - the Blues Club at The Star & Garter and the Ricky Tick and can anyone remember bunking off school to catch the lunchtime session (think it was Tuesdays) at The Marquee with The High Numbers ? I was lucky, there was so much going on around West London at that time and the Windsor/Richmond/Twickenham venues seemed to be on the circuit, so there was always somewhere to go, but my nights out were mainly for the R & B at The Marquee, Alexis Korner, The T-Bones, The Yardbirds and John Mayall (plus the legends started out with them), Sonny Boy, Long John Baldry, but there was also my beloved Fulham Palace Road Greyhound, The Flamingo, Discoteque, Crawdaddy The Temple (nearly forgot that one), Station Hotel , Eel Pie Island and The Speak (if you knew somebody who could get you in) also took my money, as did HMV and Dobell's (??) where I bought one or two vinyls, later to be lost or left at various parties. Who said you live and learn ?? Windsor even hosted the National Jazz, Pop, Ballads and Blues Festival (brainchild of Harold Pendleton, then manager of The Marquee) for 2 years , '66 & '67, (following on from Richmond) and who can forget Arthur Brown in his cage on a crane or something, hair blazing, singing "Fire" Unfortunately, the local council imposed noise limits, enraging artists and fans alike, who all declared they could hear nothing... 1968 saw a move to Sunbury, 1969/70 Plumpton - 1971 the festival moved to Reading.... that's history !!
The end of the 60's, for me, involved a more complicated trip to North London - the more alternative Ufo & Roundhouse. Well, that's about it. - and I still love that music today - it's me......
Favorite Blues Artists and Bands
My time was 60's & 70's, so too many, many, many. Don't want to offend anyone by leaving them out - but, for starters - B B King,, Eddie James "Son House" Jr., Robert Johnson,, Elmore James, Etta James, Otis Spann, Otis Rush, Sonny Boy , H. Wolf, Blind Lemon, , Peter Green, Jimi Hendrix, , T-Bones, Alexis Korner, Muddy, Lightning Hopkins, Graham Bond and his Organisation, Neat Change (how on earth did they influence the hippies ?), Buddy Guy, The Yardbirds, John Mayall, Cyril Davis and his Allstars, Danny Kirwan, Coco Montoya,, Robin Trower, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Albert King, Love Arthur Lee, Albert Collins, SRV, Albert Lee, Butterfield Blues Band, Mike Bloomfield, Captain Beefheart, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, Roy Buchanan, Humble Pie, Savoy Brown, The Pretty Things, Edgar Broughton Band, Ten Years After, Moby Grape, Stray,Stackridge, QMS, Blodwyn Pig, Mountain, Steamhammer, 13th Floor Elevators, Atomic Rooster, Spooky Tooth, Janis, Steppenwolf, ,Rory Gallagher, Dylan, Tim & Jeff Buckley, Derek Trucks, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Butthole Surfers, Alter Bridge, The Zutons, Primus (for Les Claypool's bass), and Rush (for Geddy Lee), Lynyrd Skynyrd, ,Santana, White Stripes, J J Cale, The Crowes, Sandy Denny (the purest voice I ever heard) and Fairport, of course, Jo-Ann Kelly, Linus Pauling Quartet, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Shirley & Dolly Collins, June Tabor,, Edgar & Johnny Winter - you know the sort of thing !
Oh yes, Don't mind some of the alternative, psychedelic, prog. rock stuff as well, King Crimson, Caravan, Kevin Ayres (for his lyrics), Keith Christmas, Sam Apple Pie (still one of my absolute favourite bands), Quintessence, (way back to Pilton Festival '70, for them - £1 to get in - call it Glastonbury now !! ), bit of roots dub - Scientist, King Tubby, Ijahman Levi, .... and last, but not least, The Groundhogs for Cherry Red, one of my all time favourite numbers.....
And a bit of classical, Handel, Mozart, Verdi, Chopin mainly. No jazz (apart from bit of trad - sorry !!)

B B King and John Mayall London last night

It was Wonderful !!
Just so glad I got to see the great man at long last and John transported me
back to The Marquee, circa 1965, so couldn't have been better.
But do you know what made it really nice ?
So many young kids, appreciating the blues....
