Profile Information

About Me:
DC Rapier was born in a little log cabin he helped his father build in Kankakee, Illinois. Soon after, he whittled a diddley-bo out of firewood and taught himself to play Blues tunes he learned listening to the Yardbirds and other British cats.
Reading the names 'M Morganfield', 'W. Dixon' and 'E. McDaniels' on the record labels, he realized that none of these cats were in the bands that made up the British Invasion and the re-introduction of American Blues to the American public. From thence he began a life-long process of schooling himself about the Blues.
After years of professional starvation as a 'working musician', DC found his way to Taiwan where he has lived and taught English as a foreign language for 19 years - fifteen of them married blissfully to Yashan 'Linda' Huang.
Seeing that there was a totally despicable dearth of awareness about the Blues amongst the people of Taiwan, DC decided to step in, step up and rectify the situation.
He started by hosting a radio show, 'The Blues Power Hour' dedicated to shamelessly proselytizing and preaching the gospel of the Blues for which he was assigned the sobriquet of 'deacon'.
After being inspired by Taiwan-based jug-band troupe, David Chen and the Muddy Basin Ramblers, DC then took the extra step and formed an electric Blues band which after several transformations became 'BoPoMoFo', a Chicago-style Blues quintet.

And as if that sort of mid-life-crisis craziness wasn't enough, DC founded the Blues Society on Taiwan, an affiliate of the Blues Foundation and took up the call to action from Jim Nestor to nominate South Florida's R&B treasure, Joey Gilmore for the IBC.
Crazy, baby! Better than a movie - cuz Joey won the IBC; first in 2005 (but was disqualified on a minor technicality) and then again the following year.
In the meantime - with lots of help from a bunch of even crazier friends - DC gave birth to an annual Blues festival, the Blues Bash, in order to better spread the gospel of the Blues by inviting international Blues players to manifest, in the flesh, the power of the Blues to the growing audience of Blues fans on Ilha Formosa. The baby was born on a blustery day in March, 2005 and now DC has photos of 5 festivals in his scrap-book. The biggest pay off is that all of the guests artists to have come to Taiwan and share in the fun of the Blues Bashes want to come back for more!

Claiming Our Oyster: BoPoMoFo's (brief) Tour of Japan

The time has come the Walrus said…

Not to talk of sealing wax but rather to wax on about BoPoMoFo’s ‘Claiming Our Oyster’ tour of Japan.

The tour title might at first blush appear to over-state the case a bit but as this was BoPoMoFo’s first sojourn to the Land of the Rising Shun to preach the gospel of the Blues, it could be said that this trip was an historic one and so deserves a grandiose title. We’re talking personal history, here, naturally but every little story is a part of… Continue

Good Morning DC. I guess I'm in a weird mood today as I found the opening line of your BIO to be exceptionally humerous. I know you log-cabin boys are staleart but "DC Rapier was born in a little log cabin he helped his father build in Kankakee, Illinois. " is just funny. Good luck with your music. Awsome Guitar
