- About Me:
- Born in London at a very early age of Polish parents who loved music - any and all music. Thanks to Mum's radio I had a great love of rock'n'roll and then developed a fascination for the blues that wouldn't go away. Always sang for as long as I can remember - it brought me great joy even if it didn't to anyone else! Then Granma bought the piano - so I studied classical music from about the age of 5 - but the devil's music kept a callin' - until at the age of fourteen I was writing poetry and songs - and just to annoy the folks I discovered drums.
Spent the next 17 odd years touring the world as a drummer with various bands including Flying Saucers (with Sandy Ford & Pete Pritchard),Count Bishops (with Johnny Guitar), Redhouse Blues Band, Stateline, Trux (with Eddie Allen & Roger Newell), Tilt (with ex Dr.Feelgood's Gordon Russell & Andy Heart), Gunslingers, and the legendary Chuck Farley (featuring Steve Simpson,Geoff Whitehorn,Polli Palmer,B.J.Cole & the late Boz Burrell). Also performed with Paddy Goes To Holyhead, Glitterband, some of the Ramones, Johnny Thunders, Quireboys to name but a few. It was an amazing time where I got to play at some of the legendary venues and to meet and work with some of my heroes.
It is due to the diverse mix of bands that I have worked with that my songwriting covers so many musical sins and breaks a few rules along the way.
During the lean times of trying to survive as a musician I worked as the Drum Doctor at Londons' ProPercussion, wrote articles and reviews for music press such as Melody Maker, NME, International Musician, Music UK and others. By this time I was the veteran of about 2500 gigs performing at every level from backstreet pubs and clubs to major tours and festivals.
Eventually after a health scare and much soul searching I hung up my sticks and walked away. Being by the sea brought fresh inspiration and when the head of my blues mistress popped up again the temptation was just too great. so I moved back to London in 1996 and teamed up with my old friend and guitarist Steve Yelland to form Flashbacks - but this time I was fronting the band as a vocalist and guitarist. It all made sense as I'd always played and collected guitars and I'd been singing forever - what more excuse did I need.
In 2004 I was approached by my good friend and guitarist Chris Hill and harp blower extraordinaire John'Reckless Reg' McGuinness to form a good time blues band - so with the additional talents of former Taste, Family and Spencer Davis bassist - the legendary Charlie McCracken and Paul Atkinson (Etta James, GB Blues Band, Houserockers, Mickey Jupp) on drums - we formed Smokin' Blues which became The Buick Hill Band, a hard drivin' rockin' blues band with more than a hint of rock'n'roll on the side. Sadly this band is no more due to my commitments on both sides of the 'big pond'.
After my Fathers' death in '06, I recorded my first solo effort, the 'Just A Thought...' EP in '07, dedicated to my Dad and featuring songs from each decade I'd been writing, from the 70's to now.
Surviving a heart attack and too long a spell in hospital in June '08, against consultants advice, by July I was at The Vault Studios in Houston, TX to record some songs with Michael 'The Mudcat' Reames and New Orleans legend Wayne Folse - and with the mighty Dave Williams (Hall & Oates, O'Jays...) producing, wow - it was a joy to be alive - still!
I'm hoping to finish the new 'Battered'n'Bluesed' album here in London over the coming months and it will be an album very much rooted in the blues.
So there you have it.....me - still married to my music as I believe I always will be - just as the blues will always be my mistress. And after my recent scares I just relish every day that I have the chance to wake up and do it all again!! To be continued.......

- How can I even begin to try putting a list together - it's everybody that was ever touched by music, especially by the blues and has touched my heart along the way - else I wouldn't love it and I sure as hell wouldn't be playing it!
