- About Me:
- Bobby "BlackHat" Walters, blues harmonica player, vocalist, and songwriter hails from Cleveland, Ohio and has been playing harp for over 30 years. After retiring from the U.S. Coast Guard, Bobby started taking his harp playing seriously and has studied with Dennis Gruenling, Phil Wiggans, Johnny Sansone, and Allen Holmes. While a member of the Black Rose Blues Band he had the honor of opening for Blues Legends B.B King, Taj Mahal, and Steady Rollin Bob Margolin. Bobby has shared the stage with Kenny Neal, Bill Deal and the Rhondels, Jason Ricci and New Blood, Eddie Shaw and Wolfgang, and Ruthie Foster. He is regular on the Tidewater blues scene and you can often find him sitting in with the Michael Clark Band, Sweet Papa and the Too Hot Blues Crew, Rhythm Pigs, Blues Empacts, and Bridging the Gap.
BlackHat brings together the finest blues musicians in Hampton Roads to perform classic, modern, as well as original blues tunes that will keep your toes tappin and your hips shakin all night long.
I bought my first harp after hearing Lee Oskar play with WAR in 1972. The sound of his harp just mesmerized me and I knew right then and there I was gonna be a harp player too."
In 2008, Bobby BlackHat and Larry Berwald teamed up to compete in the International Blues Challenge Semi-Finals in Memphis, TN.
BlackHat has been voted the MEONA 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 "Harp Player of the Year" and the 2004, 2005 "Blues Entertainer of the Year".
Bobby is Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
In 2006, BlackHat added acting credits to his resume when he participated in the filming of the History Channel documentary "Sherman's March to the Sea".
