Cheers Jukka! Hopefully see you over here again sometime next year?
If you want a copy of the album just drop me a note of your address (I know, I should have it around here somewhere ...), and I'll get one off to you.
Hi,
We decided to use the term alt.blues and so we have a society (?) called Alt.Blues Finland ry. We are organizing an international festival called Floating Cocroach Festival in Helsinki. It has got good publicity in Finland/Estonia in nationwide…
Black River Bluesman and the Croaking Lizard play their Blues in the deep woods and swamps of the muddy Black River Delta way up North in cold Finland. Their unrefined, electric and hypnotic Blues have been compared to the rough sounds of the Mississippi Hill Country artists as well as to anything between Tom Waits and Jim Morrison or psychoblues and garage. Whatever the influences may be, they play their animal Blues with no compromises - just the way they feel.
Cds released:
- Rat Bone (2008)

“Jukka ´Black River Bluesman´ and his Cockroach Combo destroyed the woods and the mountains around their tiny hometown of Mustio Finland by carving their guitars, drums and harmonicas from whole ironwood trees with their bare hands and by using John Henry´s twelve pound hammer (with four foot handle) they beat down those mountains for brass, silver and iron (and coal to fire this thing) to fashion the rest of the parts they needed. When they were finished they stomped their thirst with a bottle of RL Burnside´s Bloody mthrfckr and sat down in the full moon light at that muddy crossroads between Holly Springs Mississippi, Mustio and County Kisko to play Their raw dirty beautiful Blues.”
-Rick Saunders, Deep Blues (USA), August 2006
Favorite Blues Artists and Bands
In no particular order: Deltahead, Dogbreath, Bullfrog Brown, LR Phoenix, Dirty Trainload, Tuomari Nurmio, Hillstomp, Left Lane Cruiser, Hell´s Kitchen, Bob Log III, John Lee Hooker, T-Model Ford, RL Burnside, Jimmy Lee Williams, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Hound Dog Taylor, Patti Smith, Sex Pistols, Marc Bolan, Linton Kwesi Johnson and so on.... If I could only have one artist´s all albums and nothing else, I would choose those of John Lee Hooker.
Looks like we will see each other at Deep Blues Festival this year after all !

Hey Matee, finally got some sounds of bands I've been in. Two of the bands I'm playing Guitar and in the hard rock punk poppin' band, I'm on the kit (but I've mellowed since then. ha ha) it's 99% original and not what Stringy and I do now. hope you enjoy.
Hi Black River Bluesman,
Here is my wish for the very best to you and all my LiveBluesWorld friends as we take the music of our heritage into 2009 and the 21st century.
It's an honor to be on this journey with you. ..and a pleasure to be your friend. Thank you for allowing me to be a member of the community.

Hey Matee, glad to make your acquaintance. You couldn't find any sounds cause there ain't none, we've got a video of a show we did earlier this year but neither Stringy or I know how and what to do with it to get it on the net, we are looking for someone that does know what to do, so keep a look out.
Thanks for the message , yes The Groundhogs toured with Hooker regularly
up to 68/69 and we recorded an album with him in the mid 60's , we also had
dinner with Howling Wolf in London in the early 60's , courtesy of Dave Kelly, toured with Little Walter , Champion Jack Dupree , Big Joe Williams
( who we recorded in London about 69 for a release on our own label ,
Groundhog Series ) Jimmy Reed , toured with The Rolling Stones , Canned
Heat , John Mayall , Edgar Winter plus a lot of individual band members
appearing on blues records & c.d's right up to the present day , 2008
being the 45th. anniversary of the band.
Still we have not played the Himalayan Blues Festival which sounds a great thing to do
regards
