Who is...
Black Betty- The Blues Pinup.
"Black Betty carries her soul in her voice. It can cut straight through you. If I didn't know better, I would say she sold her soul to the Devil at the crossroads in Mississippi to get that talent. "-Daniel Stevens. Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area originally, this little lady can now be found in the Washington DC area working with blues artists Memphis Gold, Charlie Sayles, and Joe Poppen.
While just a college student, Black Betty met blues guitarist Joe Poppen at Berklee College of Music. He began playing in her original rock band, Black Betty and The Bad Habits, which went on to release the full length album Voodoo Man, now rotated on college, major, and XM radio stations. The band was also nominated for "Best Female Vocalist in Boston" two years in a row by WBZ-TV Channel 4, and opened for Snoop Dog and Peaches at the 2007 Exotic Erotic Ball in San Francisco after winning the "Great Indie Band Contest".
Poppen introduced Black Betty to Memphis Gold and Charlie Sayles, blues greats in the DC area for whom he had played for over a decade. Both artists took her under their wing, and within a year she found herself singing at major blues festivals, international events, and even an official Inaugural Ball concert for the military in 2009.
One of the youngest blues singers on the East Coast, she's been called "The Little Lady with the Big Voice" and "The Blues Pinup".
