Big Mamma's Door play their brand of Sexy 50's RnB, 'with a whole lot of professionalism and love for the blues', 'The music is just top notch' "
- Bobjte, Bobtje Blues (Mar 19, 2008)
It’s amazing what can happen if you hang around a blues bar long enough! Of course, it isn't just any ole blues bar I'm talking about, it's Ain't Nothin' But in Soho, where on a good Monday night, you can see just about the best musicians jamming together on stage.
And that's where Big Mamma's Door opened a chink, when Fiona McElroy (vocals) Mal Barclay (guitar), Joe Glossop (keys), and Big Andy Roberts thought about jamming on a more regular basis. Then the rockin Rob Pokorny (Drums) joined the equation and finally Big Mamma's Door was open for business.
And the business…the best Sexy RnB around, the way it should be! 1950’s style!
(From Blues in London 2008)
Mal Barclay's 'great combination of taste, touch, and tone lift tunes out of the ordinary and imbue a solid rectitude to proceedings despite looking like he's just cutting loose and having enormous fun. When combined with the consistently great piano and organ of Joe Glossop the rhythms are blooming marvellous and the solos marvellously bloom.'
'Fiona McElroy whipped the crazy crowd into a clamour’ ‘Her gutsy vocals were matched by playful Irish banter between numbers and she ably fronts the band and engages the crowd. Sharing a few songs with Malcolm gives BMD breadth and interest and the crowd had no choice but to enjoy things enormously’
Between them, the members of BMD have played at most of the top Blues festivals in Europe, including Rhythm 'n' Blues Festival Antwerpen, The Great British RnB, Colne, Rock & Blues Weekend, Skegness, Burnley Blues Festival, and even Bestival, this summer. They have toured UK and European Clubs, with some of the best Blues bands on the scene at the moment, including The Cadillac Kings, Jeremiah Marques & the Blue Aces, West Weston's Bluesonics, The Paul Garner Band, Roadhouse
