Hi!! My name is Alicia and I'm 15 years old. I like to play guitar, especially blues, swing, and jazz, and have been playing for about five years now. I started playing guitar becuase I saw B.B. King on television, and he was talking about how he plays and does his vibrato. He really inspired me to pick up the guitar, especially after I saw him perform live. Also, I have been very fortunate to become acquainted with Marty " Big Dog" Mercer, one of Joliet's finest blues performers. He has given me the opportunity to play with seasoned players in and around Joliet, IL, creating experiences that would last a lifetime. I have also played with Chip Ratliff, Roy Boyd, Hassan Khan, The Columbia College Chicago Blues Ensemble, Jackie Scott, Pauline York , Jeff Ruffin, Rodney Whitaker, John Huet, The Vincent Hayes Project, Jordan Gross, Kevin Depree, The C. Avery Jazz Quartet, Michigan State University's Jazz Band One Rhythm Section, Dana Hall, Twist Ferguson, and Fernando Jones. I have had the privilege to perform at the 2008 Chicago Blues Fest, 2009 Idlewild, MI Music Festival, VFW Cantigny Joliet, The Chaoz Club, Buddy Guy's Legends, South Shore Country Club, and Columbia College Chicago. I was the first eighth grader to ever be accepted into the High School Jazz Band at my school. I have also won a Best Soloist Award at the Regional Jazz competition, where the High School Jazz Band won the First Place Outstanding Big Band Award in April of 2009. I also won the First Place Oustanding Soloist Award at the University Jazz Weekend Competition in Feb. of 2010, where the Jazz Band won First Place for best Rhythm Section and First Place for Best Band. In April of 2010, I had the honor of receiving the Outstanding Soloist of the entire Festival Award at the Regional Jazz Competition. Also, in April of 2010, I had the honor of receiving a place in the 2010 All State Jazz Band, thus making me the Best Jazz guitarist in the state. Only eighteen kids got picked for the band, but thousands competed. I like to play guitar as a hobby, and I love going to gigs because it makes me feel so great afterwards!! Everything I play is improvised, and I rarely do songs note for note. Well, there's some stuff about me...
