Well, I sure wish I had, but by the time I got into the blues, a lot of greats had passed on. Lesson learned...never take great music for granted, and never sit your ass on the couch figuring you'll catch them the next time around. There just might not be a next time.
I believe I am Very lucky.it was 1972 or 73.My good friends big brother was playing upright bass for red,in New Orleans....He came to NY with him,and Red stayed at his house, and I got to hang out with him, eat with him...we took him to a local bar , he found an old broken piano{upright} in the corner.....out of tune, missing keys.....and started playing it, within minutes people were buying him drinks....he literally smoked that piano to the floor...it was incredible, the next day, he left my buddy's house, with his brother back to New Orleans on Amtrac...........very cool
I played with Red for about 3 years up until his death. He was a good friend and mentor. I have heard rumors t the effect that there is a documentary being put together about Red by a film maker from the Carolinas. Does anyone have any information about it?
