I guess I'd pretty much have to second that. Johnny started me to playing blues and the first two albums still intimidate the hell outta me. What do you do with Blues guitar past that?!! Thanks for the word on the Bio, Paul.

Check out these special releases of Johnny's first three albums:

I really like these because they are digipak instead of the tacky jewel cases, and they have nice artwork and liner notes. The Progressive Blues Experiment has a photo on the back cover of Johnny sitting on the couch at the home of the owners of Sonobeat records where he recorded the two acoustic tracks (see http://sonobeatrecords.com/johnnywinter.html). Each of these releases has the original songs plus two bonus tracks (mono single versions of same songs from the albums).

Woah, another Johnny Winter album is out, this one live recorded live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival April 25, 2009. It popped up on Amazon for about $24, but I googled and found the source and it is only $16 there, was released just a few weeks ago:

If that link does not work go to homegrownmusic.net and search store for Johnny Winter. They had 30 second clips of all the songs.

Wow man. Only 1 week to go for Live Bootleg Vol 6. I can hardly wait to hear Blackjack. The live album "Live in NYC '97" has a wonderful rendition of Blackjack. Getting a different one will be great. Then about May, the book on Johnny's life, Raisin Cain. Hopefully a new studio album, tentatively titled Roots. This could be a #GREAT# year for Johnny Winter fans.

Hey, here is a KILLER Johnny Winter Live Concert CD that some may not know about: Live in America 1978. It can be viewed at this site:

I got this a month ago and I rate it right up there with Live Bootleg Vol 1. The rockers really scream and the blues tunes are fantastic.

Thanks Sean. As wonderful as the Live Bootleg series is, one thing is lacking: where were the recordings from. They do give approximate dates, but more info about the concerts would be great. I got it from a little birdie that Live Bootleg Volume 1 is actually the Woodstock Revival 1979 concert. Apparently there is a bootleg out there of the Woodstock Revival concert that has the same songs (less the bonus track) but in slightly different order and includes Johnny saying, "I haven't had this much fun in 10 years." At any rate Live Bootleg 1 is a killer concert, and I look forward to LB Vol 6, hoping it covers a more recent concert--I figure it has to be about mid to late 90s.

Hey guys -- It's great to see everyone on here. I've been "out of pocket" for a while, but I'm back to updating Johnny's official blog at www.johnnywinter.net. (Click on "news" once you're there.) I'll be posting soon about Vol. 6 of the Live Bootleg Series as well as Mary Lou Sullivan's upcoming book on Johnny. In the meantime, many thanks to you guys for your enthusiasm. See you on the road!

Even better (in some ways, or just as good) is the new book on Johnny Winter's life, "Raisin' Cain: The Wild and Raucous Story of Johnny Winter." I saw an interview with Johnny where he had read this book and said it has everything and was a very emotional read, that the author really nailed it. I ordered my copy off Amazon a couple months ago. It's due to release sometime about May 2010. I can hardly wait!
