When was Johnny sporting a beard?
Occasionally I see photographs of Johnny with a beard and I am trying to place what years he wore the beard. I see he is wearing a short beard on Raisin Cain (1980), but not on any other albums that I can date. He is wearing a beard on the cover of Live Bootleg Volume 4, but who knows if that photo even fits the music on that disk, though he does look somewhat older there than he was on Raisin Cain.

hello- i know johnny was sporting a beard when he guest-appeared on edgar's 1972 white trash roadwork (live) album; he had a beard in 1973 when he appeared on don kirshner's rock concert tv show; had a beard on the 1974 saints& sinners album; had a beard in 1980 when raisin' cain was released; had a beard in '81 when he appeared with muddy waters at the chicago blues festival; i have also seen other photos from around then & he has a beard- i believe the photo on the live bootleg vol.4 was taken around then; he had a beard as recently as 2007 because i saw him in concert then & he had a beard....

hey paul- i was looking on a great fan-site; the johnny winter story(www.yee.ch/winter/ ) & if you go to the year 1983 under timeline there's a picture of johnny from march3, 1983 at the brandywine club where he's sporting a beard & i believe the cover of the live bootleg vol. 4 was taken by the same photographer & probally the same show....you probally already know about this site, but if you don't it's an excellent & very informative johnny winter site, even better than his official site (& it ain't bad either).....

Oh yeah, I have been to the Johnny Winter Story site often and still there is a lot I haven't read there. It's an amazing site. I see now there is a beard on Saints and Sinners. Looks like he had the beard off and on at various times. Thanks.

Johnny had a beard when I saw him in London in May 2007 or 2008, don't like him with a beard, he looks better without it.
