Johnny is a great guy. We loved having him play here at BamFest. Also his friend and manager, Paul Nelson is one of the best people I have met. It was a true privilege to produce an album with him on it. He was a true highlight to that Saturday night I just wish we could put the whole show on an album. He just had a fantastic night here musically.
It is great to hear the tales of Johnny kickin' butt, he is a true living legend and I heartily look forward to seeing him again when he tours the South Jersey or Philly area. Every time I,ve seen him I've enjoyed the shows and it sounds like he's keepin' on keepin' on- wonder if I could get him to sign my Firebird? I have a couple axes he has been kind enough to autograph (one with a Buck knife of my buddie's- hilarious story), normally bringing just a pickguard, but I'd LOVE to get him to sign the 'bird (white, of course) if it could be arranged. Hey Johnny- have a GREAT Christmas and thanks & God bless you for all the Joy you've brought to the world!
Hey Jake -- Johnny is scheduled to play the Stone Pony in Asbury Park on January 3. Maybe then you could get him to sign that Firebird! Best wishes, Sean >>>
I only discovered Johnny Winter a few years ago (after buying a "Best Of" album on sale), but rapidly became a HUGE fan (and secondarily got turned on to blues in general). I see him every chance I get, mostly at the B.B. King Blues Club in New York.

I'd love the opportunity to shake his hand, and have heard stories of him signing things for fans. However, he always appears to leave right after the performance and I never see a tour bus or line of waiting fans. However do people manage to meet him???
I met him when I was 16, someone I know must have known him I got to go back stage and he actually let me play one of his guitars and jam with him. I was not ANY GOOD but he was really nice to me and encouraged me. Wish I could play with him now. That was 38 years ago.
That's a great story! It's always nice when a major musical figure like Johnny Winter takes the time to encourage a young player!

I saw Johnny for the first time on Feb. 12, 2009 (2 nights ago) in Saugus, MA. (I've been hooked since I bought Still Alive And Well back in 1973.) The show was EXCELLENT! I met him before the show in his camper, which was parked behind the venue. He was greeting fans, posing for pictures and signing CD's and publicity shots of the band. We shook hands and he signed my copy of Still Alive And Well. A classy, talented and modest man! I'm looking forward to seeing him again!
I watched Watermellon Slim do the same thing last night in OKC after a young drummer came off the stage from jamming with some seasoned musicians. He had not played well and was hangin his head. Slim went over and put his arm around him and talked to him for several minutes. That is another really nice guy who is just now receiving the recognition he deserves.
hi debbie, johnny is always driven to b.b. kings club, there is no parking there so they stay out of town when he plays at bb's. most other shows the tour bus is parked out back and you are more than welcome to go on and get autographs and pictures.they try to get to eveyone but do to time restraints and other shows they have to get to sometimes they don't get to see everyone but they do try.I have been on the tour bus several times and have gotten pics. and autographs.at one show in st.louis I bought the chair that johnny did the show in and took it on the bus and he signed it also.I also have pics.and autographs of the other band members, you talk about nice people, they treat you like your family.if you make it to another show try to hook up with paul he is the one who will get you on the bus.hope you make it.good luck.I will be at the canton ohio blues festival june 19th to see johnny again, when I talk to him I'll tell him to keep an eye out for ya next time he plays bb,s club.haha. have a good day.blues forever,greg...!!!!
I've seen Johnny mostly in Holland and London, after the show there's always a group of fans making their way to the back of the venue where his bus is parked, he signs tickets and whatever you like to have signed. Sometimes you get the chance to meet him in person, I had that honour in London a few years ago, I was also allowed to have my picture taken with him. It's really great that he is willing to do that, he must really be tired after his concert, but he still makes time for the fans. When I met him we had a little chat, well, quite frankly I was a little overwhelmed and I didn't quite know what to say, but he was such a nice and friendly man, I hope you get the chance to meet him one day.
Thank you Johnny for doing the blues. Your music blows me away! I've got 19 Johnny Winter CDs and plan to get more. Since my first Johnny Winter album when I was about 15 ('72) Johnny has been the top guitarist in my book and top blues singer too. Love all the albums, favorites are Progressive Blues Experiment, Nothin But The Blues, and Third Degree, but they all are great. I'm very happy to hear that things are going great for Johnny now. Looking forward to the upcoming CD on blues roots. I suspect it will be a very special CD, different from anything he has done so far.
hi paul, just read your comment, nice. what is the upcoming c.d. you are talking about.I haven't heard of anything new except for the anthology c.d. that was just released, and the woodstock c.d. that is coming out in late june or first week of july.I have them both on order. If the c.d. you are talking about isn't one of these let me know so I can get it.Thanks man, blues forever.greg...!!!!
Hi Greg. It's mentioned in this thread here:
http://www.livebluesworld.com/forum/topics/new-johnny-winter-album
I have seen references in various articles I have found on the web (sorry no links, I have hard copy at home). Anyway, it would be the next studio album, release date is not disclosed. From what I have read it will be a lot of old tunes that were early influences on Johnny. There are to be some guests on the album--not sure in what capacity, but I read that Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top fame has agreed to participate. So YEAH! This is going to be a killer album and I think as unique as Nothin But The Blues. I'll try to go through my ever mounting pile of hard copies of Johnny Winter information and glean some quotes and links, then post them (probably on the above link about the new CD).

Hey, this is cool too, found this quote somewhere on the web:

"After I heard rock 'n' roll, I heard the blues and thought to myself that blues was the real stuff." --Johnny Winter

Maybe Johnny can tell us if it's accurate. Anyhow, I find the best Rock and Roll has a bluesy element.
