Tired of working for tips!!

I have lived in Tennessee now for about three years. Although it is the greatest place I have ever lived and the people here and absolutely great people, I am confused by the way the music industry works here! On one side of Broadway (The main street in Nashville) players of the highest caliber and talent are working only for tips and there is no smoking on that side of Broadway. On the other side of Broadway, players make more on the tips because they are smoking venues and these players are also making a small wage when work is available. Here is the confusing part - If you work in any other state, because you are a Nashville Musician, you can make up to 15 thousand dollars for a two hr. show. You can come home after one weekend with thirty thousand dollars. If you move to the area where you make this kind of pay check, that pay scale will not be available to you anymore because you are not living in Nashville???????????? I don't get it?????????? The same great music, the same great players and the same caliber of talent??????? Somethings wrong!!!!! Everyone around the world thinks that if you are a Nashville Musician, you are rich. W R O N G!!!! This whole thing doesn't make sense to me. I will say that two of the greatest things I have received from Nashville is: great friends and great memories!! A person still has to pay the bills!!! I have seen in Nashville some of the greatest and most gifted musicians in the world working as door men at hospitals and universities. It is a crying shame. Literally!!! Can someone make sense out of this for me???
