I have always been a big fan of this kind of brilliant defiance, something that stems back to the '60s for me.
According to a story that appeared in the Manchester Telegraph.co.uk, unsigned music group the Get Out Clause unable to afford a camera crew and equipment, utilized the existing surveillance cameras seen all over British streets. With an estimated 13 million CCTV cameras in existence all over Britain, finding suitable locations to shoot was not difficult.
They set up their equipment at eighty different locations--including on a bus and inside a taxi cab--and simply played to the cameras.
They then asked for this footage using the Data Protection Act, an English statute similar to the U.S.’s Freedom of Information Act that mandates any individual should have access to all information collected about them.
Although only a quarter of the locations they contacted for this footage complied, this still left them with enough suitable footage to put together a really nice music video.
Although this video has been removed fro the Telegraph.co.uk,something I suspect Big Brother may have been responsible for--imagine the kind of anarchy that can result if this catches on--- it was uploaded to youtube.com where it has since gone viral.
