We've all heard this before. "It aint blues if its played by a white man/woman",
"It aint blues if it aint the pentatonic minor",
"It aint blues if the solo is overdubbed"!
Got any good ones to add to this?

Someone has been listening to the wrong people!
I think I earned the right to speak on this one!
I started playing Blues and soul in 1965 (With an all Black Band) with Professionals who played with Little Richard, Percy sledge, and Roy Orbison.
I was told that when a white person (Remember this was 1965) has "soul" they call Him a"Blue Eyed Brother" Thats a Complement.
As I recall "Booker T and the MG's" were making Records Then "Green Onions" and Steve Cropper and Donald Dunn are White, and I never heard those comments about them.
In Fact They Backed and Steve wrote songs for Otis Redding "Mr soul" Himself.
So this is some "garbage" , because SOUL which is the feeling you put into what you Play (Example BB King) and has NO Color.
So I hope this clears up and Ends this dialogue.
Play the Blues from your heart, as you feel it, and thats that!

Again I think you misunderstood the purpose of this discussion. The goal was to gather up all the dumb and narrowminded things you've heard people say over the years.

None of us actually think any of this is correct or remotely sane. =)

Its a joke topic.
You are totally right about that! LOL
I just needed to give THEM a piece of my mind, maybe it might help someone?
Most of the guys on this site appear to be above all that.
thanks for your reply.

Jake,
In as much as this is a joke topic, and we have agreed to move ahead in the vein, I think we are clearly missing something.

Randy and others are giving us some very good arguments for why these remarks are "absurd.", We have clearly hit a real nerve and we really didn't have to dig that deep. Lying just below the surface are some deep seated feelings that are really dividing this music and those in it. These being the -isms, as I call them, that keep on surfacing pulling us all apart.

I think it is a good time to pursue these things, but I would suggest doing it in another thread.
Great Observation!
If you look at my comments again you will see that, the points I made
bring us together, and not apart, like the people WHO make those comments would do.
I play "Soul" you have to be intimately connected with the other people performing, and their can't be considerations, or opinions, or ideas going
on below the surface,Because THAT Hurts the Music.
We ARE Brothers and should Respect each other as such, is my point.
Happy Bluesin!
Randy Bluesman :-)
Thats what its all about....Playing your hearst out...Blues with a fealing...
IVE CREATED A MONSTER!
I had no idea that something so simple and laughable could be interpreted like this. But Randy isnt the 1st person to misinterpret it, I hear you Randy, but I sure hope you arent refering to me when you speak of "THEM".
For once Just Roots Dave, seems like we are in agreement about something. Any discussion of these underlying sentiments should be discussed, as any element of this music we all love should be discussed, and this is the site to do it. But yeah, ON ANOTHER THREAD. Come on folks lets all take a deep breath, this is to provide a humorous look and the knuckleheads that have these preconceptions and make these remarks. And before anybody else goes off.....take the time to read the thread to understand its intended to be light hearted and humorous, and maybe get a chuckle out of it in the process.
Jake to rescue again, thanx bud.
It ain't the blues if it's typed in an internet chatroom.

Obviously every one of us has a strong emotional connection to this music. It's very hard, if not impossible, to translate those emotions into cold, lifeless, black and white type. Add to that the fact that we're literally communicating from all around the globe. There are bound to be some misunderstandings. All in all, we still got a beautiful thing goin'!
Run Pedro Run...Man Toooo Funny!
i believe it ain't blues if it's a Marshall amp : )
It ain't blues if played on a ukulele.
