Woke up this morning at 5:30am to hear that the legend John Cephas had passed away... It hit me like a ton of bricks... What a great, great person, guitarist and singer this guy was. I was lucky enough to live close to where he lives and was able to see him over the years over 20times in concert and even take a few lessons from him. Kind, Gentle man that seem to take all the heavy loads off your back when he would speak or start playing... I will miss him greatly.... If you don't have any of his recordings or have never heard of him... Please go out and and buy a cd today of this legend and look up what he had done in his life. Beside Honeyboy Edward, John was one of the last true bluesman.... I just had to write a song this morning about him... you can listen to it at www.myspace.com/jackroyblues ... Now I am not a singer at all.. and this was just a simple, sad tune that I recorded because that is the way I felt this morning after hearing the news...
We played on the same bill a year ago this month. He was a great talent and a very nice man. There is some comfort in the knowledge that he'll be in very good company up there. Rest in peace Mr. Cephas.
