Blues musician George "Papa" Lightfoot was honored Friday with a Mississippi Blues Trail marker at a Natchez, Mississippi park just steps away from where he was reared. Lightfoot's marker is the second in Natchez. Lightfoot, a skilled harmonica player, grew up on Franklin Street in Natchez and was instrumental during the resurgence of the blues genre in the late 1960s.
Lightfoot began recording as a session man in 1949 and retreated from the blues scene until 1969, when he recorded and released his breakout album, "Natchez Trace." His comeback was short-lived. He died in 1971.
