The directors and the officers of the Blues Foundation have been elected.  It's no surprise that a number of these names are ones that you may recognize.  They have been part of the M&Ms for years.

According to the Blues Foundation:

The Blues Foundation, the international organization dedicated to the past, present and future of blues music, has completed its election of
its Board of Directors and officers, selecting ten individuals to join
the 25-person Board. Board members help to develop the vision for The
Blues Foundation and acquire the resources to implement those plans.
These new members join the board as The Blues Foundation investigates
the possibility of a permanent home in downtown Memphis, to centralize
the Foundation's educational, audio-visual and retail activities, in
addition to housing staff and operations. The new board members will
contribute their respective expertise in finance, marketing, consulting
and development to the Foundation's efforts through 2012.

Do you agree with the political structure of this music?  Is this political structure necessary in "keeping the Blues alive"?  As a musician, have you personally benefited from this structure of officers, directors, etc., etc., etc. ad nauseum?

I recently found out that Eric Hughes, a founding member of the Memphis Blues Society, is playing noon to 4 on Saturdays at Superior on Beale. I play the same gig from 5 to 9. Interesting.

I've talked so much sh!t. Now I'm curious. The deadline to join the competition is Sep 15.
I'm lost. "Shit?" "Competition?" Normally, I can rely on the clarity of your postings. What are you saying here, Chad?

Are you conceding to the possibility of the politics of this music?
I'm still not into the competition thing. I'm just seeing an opportunity to play a short set for a group that may find it interesting, politically speaking. I don't plan on advancing too far since the judges won't necessarily be my audience. I haven't committed to anything as of yet. It does make me a little queasy.
The foundation is not a bad thing. It's should be a care taker of the blues legacy and keep the music alive and breathing in times when the general popularity of a music genre is low. I'm afraid that I'm detecting that the foundation determines the future direction of the blues, who should be playing it and who we should be listening to. I hope that's not true, that scares me. We all must respect the roots of the music always and artist that carry that torch but new artist need a chance to be heard...once people start controlling stuff it's kind of like messing with the DNA of music. The blues should be free. I hope the foundation isn't doing that type of thing???? Besides, do we know anyone in Politics that truely has other peoples interest in mind? okay, name one...
