Detroit Blues Society endorses Playin’ with Fire for “Best Self-Produced CD of the Year” award

October 13, 2009

Detroit, Michigan
: The Detroit Blues Society has endorsed Playin with Fire by the Rusty Wright Band as their nominee for the Blues Foundation’s "Best Self-produced CD of the year" award.

“We are honored to have the Detroit Blues Society’s endorsement,” said bandleader Rusty Wright. “From the start, the DBS and its members have been supportive of our shows, our recordings, and our other efforts. We will always be grateful for that.”

Released in February 2009 through Wright’s Sadson Music label, Playin’ with Fire has received excellent reviews and airplay across the globe. The cd was recorded at The House of the Sadson in Flint, Michigan and Alliance Recording Co. (AKA The Swamp) in Parshallville, Michigan. The disc was produced by Rusty Wright, with multi-platinum engineer Al Hurschman (Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, The Rockets, Grand Funk Railroad, Parliament, Winans) acting as executive producer.

According to their website, since 2005 The Blues Foundation has celebrated up-and-coming artists by bestowing an award for the "Best Self-Produced CD" of the year. It will do so again during the 26th Annual International Blues Challenge (IBC), which is held in Memphis Tennessee. The Best Self Produced CD award honors artists that have achieved excellence in the studio. Acts can be bands, solo acts, duo acts, trios, full choirs or any other combination. The purpose of this award is to assist Blues musicians in the pursuit of their professional goals.

Blues organizations affiliated with the Blues Foundation are each allowed one submission. Judging is conducted in three stages, with the first two rounds conducted by radio/ print media professionals. Submissions will be evaluated on musical performance, audio quality of the presentation, cover art and design, and credits and liner information. Finalists will be announced prior to the IBC, and the award will be presented at the IBC finals, to be held on Saturday, January 23rd, 2010.

Congratulations! Nice effort.

Tell us about your newest efforts. When will it drop?
Hi Dave!

We're currently in pre-production for not one, but two new cds. I can't say much about them at this point, except to say one of them is a more acoustic, traditional project than we've ever undertaken before. No projected release dates as yet. We've learned from our past releases that everything takes longer to finish and costs more than we think it will.
Awesome! Either way, I am looking forward to its release.

For those who may not yet know Rusty and Laurie Wright, or the Rusty Wright Band, this band is making a very big name for themselves. They have played with Etta James and Ronnie Baker Brooks on separate occasions, plus other big names. They recently returned from entertaining the troops abroad with the Bluezapaloosa touir

To the Rusty Wright Band--Jerry D, Blues DJ from Quincy IL... my Member profile is: http://www.livebluesworld.com/profile/JerryD Let me help you with your "Shameless Self Promotion" by mailing me a copy of "Playing with Fire", so I can put it to work on the local fm airwaves, down here in west central IL. My mailing address is listed on my Profile page. I'd love to give your stuff a listen, and put it to work on one, or both of my shows.
PS--being a veteran myself--I want to thank you for doing "Bluzapalooza". You may not have realized this-there's a good chance that you probably turned on many young folks to "the coolness" THE BLUES-giving them there first real taste of the blues. It took me being stationed in Anchorage AK in 1980 to discover the Blues, with a chance purchase by a buddy of mine buying "Roy Buchanon's-Live Stock Album" to discover the Blues myself, and changed me forever. With my later involvement with our local Blues Society when I moved back home--I realized that I wanted to see Blues music on the local airwaves--so folks wouldn't be deprived of this (like I was while growing up here), and I worked hard to get two shows going locally-first on the local NPR Station, and then finally on a local Classic Rock Station--and I've got three hours every Sunday morning to preach the blues! Let's keep the Blues alive together, Jerry D
Thanks Jerry,
We will most definitely get you a goodie pack of music shipped out asap! Also working on festivals for 2010. The Quincy Bluesfest is on our radar. If you have any connects or info we'd appreciate it.

Side note: The Armed Forces tour went very well and they have asked us about another one in 2010. Last mention was a tour of Turkey, Greece and Egypt. I'll keep everyone updated as it comes up.

We will be doing a commercial tour of Europe sometime in 2010. I'll spread the word as dates are finalized.
Thanks again,
Rusty
Thanks Rusty--I'll put your stuff to work when I get it! Thanks, Jerry D
