I just heard some John Lee Hooker Jr. and put it up on my blog at http://worldofblues.com/Blog/?p=723 and also here on Livebluesworld.com. Zakiya Hooker, John Lee Hooker's Daughter is also in the blues scene. This got me thinking about blues families and I was wondering what other families of blues artists are out there and what relations there are. For example R.L. Burnside was a cousin in-law to Muddy Waters.

Anyone else there care to help build a genealogy of the blues here by filling me in on family relations of blues players?

One of my favorite CD's is Billy Branch and the Sons of Blues or (SOB's). The original SOB's were Billy Branch, Lurrie Bell, Freddie Dixon and Garland Whiteside. They were all sons of famous blues artists.
That is so cool - I definitely need to blog this one and spread the word - I'll start my research now! Thanks so much.

This is a photo taken of me with Lil Ray Neal and Rudy Richard. Rudy was one of the original guitarists for Slim Harpo. He still plays around town.

I am sure a lot of the blues lovers out there has heard of Kenny Neal. Most of his family resides in Baton Rouge, LA. He has a daughter Syreeta Neal who sings blues and a mixture of other styles, his brother Lil Ray Neal came in third place at the 2008 International Blues Challenge. His nephew Tyree Neal also had placed a few years back at the IBC.

I have had the pleasure to be able to see this family perform here at home. I went to Kenny Neal's 50th Birthday bash a couple of years ago at Teddy's Juke Joint in Zachary, LA. His mother, Ms. Shirley cooks the best food for any of the Neal gatherings. Kenny's brother Larry just celebrated his 50th Birthday this year but I wasn't able to attend. I heard it was very classy. Larry also sings and plays the harmonica.

What can else can I say about this wonderful family. The musical talent heralds from their father, Raful Neal, Sr who passed away a few years ago from cancer. Kenny's sister Jackie Neal was starting to make a comeback in the music industry and was murdered. She was such a delight to watch on stage. God rest their souls.

I love to hear the Neal blues style of music and I try not to miss seeing them perform when any of them are in town.

I gotta a funny story, relative to the subject.
About 1971 I was playing at a club in Denver, I think it was called "Nate Feld's Sugar Shack". The audience was about 99.9 Afro-American. About halfway thru the nite, this carachter comes up to the stage and says he is B.B.King Jr. He looked like the spittin' image, so we said OK. He got up stage, with my guitar and we start playing a shuffle and all eyes are on him. For about a minute, he just stands there, and then clinches his fists and raises both arms in the air like BB would do in that era. But nothin' else. After about a minute more the crowd starts in on him and he then blurps "Ya'all dont know NUTHIN"!, and stormed off the stage. On the break he approached me and said, "Im sorry man, I cant play for these messed up people, f**k em'; but I can play, if you dont believe me bring your guitar to the parkin lot and Ill show ya', but I AINT playin for these f**ked up people". I declined the offer, but I noticed as we were starting the next set, he walked outa there with the 2 best looking mamacitas in the club.
Im a non afro-american, when he left, I told the crowd "Good evening ladies and gentlemen, permit me to introduce myself, Im George Wallace JR, and got a huge laugh!
