The Abertillery Blues Festival 2008 once again proved to be a huge success, attracting visitors from around the UK to see some of the best acts in Welsh, British and international blues.
A top line up has been announced for this year's Abertillery Blues Festival. Now in its fifth year it is set to be the biggest yet with a host of international talent and a growing fringe festival in the town on Thursday 16th and Sunday 19th July.
Legendary guitarist Andy Fairweather Low, one of the UK’s most eclectic and charismatic musicians is heading up this year’s festival along with his band The Low Riders.
The array of British and international talent set to take to the stage includes Alvin Youngblood Hart’s Muscle Theory (Headliner for the Friday night), The Oli Brown Band, Jay Tamkin Band, Earl Thomas & Paddy Milner & The Big Sounds, Lightnin’ Willie & The Poorboys, Derrin Nauendorf, Lisa Mills Band and the Kendall James Band.
All are thrilled to be taking part this year in particular local group the Kendall James band. After seeing Ian Siegal at the 2006 Festival one band member was inspired to form the group and go back to the basics of the blues. Now a couple of years on they are playing the Saturday night of ‘their’ festival.
For the first time camping has been introduced at just £5 per tent, encouraging more people to stay overnight and soak up the atmosphere. To ease the burden on the cost for festival goers, prices have been frozen for 2009 meaning tickets start from just £15 with an early bird offer available until 31st May 2009. Tickets are available from the box office on 01495 355800
