Sorry, I'll miss it, but I won't miss the crowds. I will arrive in Memphis on May 19th, spend a night on Beale and then hit Hwy.61 south for a week. If any of you have any suggestions for me, it's my first real trip to the delta after playing for 30+ years in Texas and NM. I plan to take my Broadcaster and my '37 Gibson EH-150 tweed suit-case amp. Hope to get to jam a bit. I was told that Thursday-Sunday most of the juke joints in the small towns have it going on live, so I'm gonna eat greasy food, drink cheap whiskey and, hopefully, jam some good blues. Don't be shy.....gimme some advice.
Gator Blue,
I'll be playing at Superior Bar at 159 Beale Street in Memphis Wed - Sat, 12-4pm (or something like that). Stop on by if you get a chance (no cover or purchase necessary). If you're hangin out late in Memphis Fri- Sun, Wild Bill's is the Juke. You won't find that stuff on Beale.
As for the Delta, I'd begin at Cathead Store in Clarksdale. www.cathead.biz has a schedule for what's going on at the clubs. For instance, there's a jam at Ground Zero on May 20.
Thanks for the invite. I will drop in, listen and meet you. My brother's flying in from Texas to join me on the trip. And thanks for the pointers. If you think of anything else, let me know. I arrive on Wed. 19th.
