2000 Lbs of Blues Featuring Kirk Fletcher ~ Saturday 8/15 The Lagham Hotel

2000 LBS OF BLUES ~ SOUL OF A SINNER

Featuring guitarist Kirk "Eli" Fletcher with vocalist Michael "Pink" Arguello and an all star cast the latest 2000 LBS creation “Soul of a Sinner” shows off the well rounded side of the band. It seems as if they made an effort to cover all blues genres, a musical roundtrip so to speak. I do have to say that they really have pulled it off nicely. There are a lot of very cool variations on this album from Raw Harmonica Blues to some terrific Soulful Blues; a good portion of Rocking Blues, even a Rap and of course one of their West Coast Jump trademarked songs called Don’t Jump! Old School meets New School and come together to create a Great New Sound!
CD REVIEWS
"Soul of a Sinner" is Beautiful! This CD is far from predictable and a Very Exciting Blues Release! Closing the set with the title track "Soul of a Sinner" it sounds as if a barrelhouse blues shouter had stepped out of the thirties with a 100 percent authentic old-fashioned sound.

"Arguello sings this program with comfortable ease. He drives hard on searing songs such as "Bad Reputation" and "Belly of the Beast" and cools off soulfully on others, such as "Real Bad Woman" and "Big Empty House." This is a outstanding program of spirited blues originals.”
By Jim Santella, Southland Blues
"'Soul of a Sinner' is a strong and raw album and shows Michael from a side we never heard from him before. The playful and swinging part made room for a deep and raw Blues straight from the heart and I'm curious if after this 4th album, which is by far his best..."

"5 Stars! This is definitely one of the Best albums I have listened to in 2009 and I have heard many. Michael Arguello and his Band play a West Coast Blues that you will love. Fantastic Album, highly recommended. This is Blues that the Ladies will love."
By Bernhard Schulte, Radio Germany
Very raw and soulful sound... Complete with a greasy harmonica sound, the way it should be. The title track takes you into the atmosphere of the Old School Blues, piano accompanied sounds as if you took a trip back into the mid 40’s Big Joe Turner style. With their swinging West Coast jump, they are also known for their breathtaking live shows.

2000 Lbs of Blues ~ NEW CD ~ Soul of a Sinner

Michael “Pink” Arguello - native of Los Angeles ~Band~ 2000 LBS OF BLUES - based on the West Coast. California. Notorious wild-man & founding member of 2000 LBS of Blues~ This charismatic, off-beat entertainer known fondly to friends as Pink, has played many different styles of music over the years from rockabilly to blues, jazz to funk even a little bit of punk.

Arguello, described at times as "Over the top” with a “Bombastic Style” has been a West Coast favorite for over 30 years. Having a personality as big as his voice, Pink’s 2000 LBS outrageous shows hearken back to an era when jump-blues was king and entertaining was what it was truly all about. Whether it’s playing local or national clubs & festivals or touring Europe there's always a cool cast of characters in the lineup ready, willing & able to burn down the house wherever they perform.

1999- "Livin' Large,'' the band's debut cd, received extensive airplay and landed on the European sales charts. Tracts from the cd were picked up by Virgin Records Europe for release on their boogie-woogie compilation cd that year.

2001- Gave birth to a new cd, "King Size" featuring guitar wizards Junior Watson and Kirk Fletcher, with appearances by Janiva Magness, Tom Mann, Sue Palmer and a host of boogie-woogie piano playing' monsters.

2003- The circus came to town one more time with 2000 Lbs of Blues disc entitled "Almost the Greatest Show on Earth!" Featuring red-hot tracks from Kid Ramos & Kirk Fletcher on guitars; English born boogie woogie virtuoso Carl "Sonny" Leyland on piano; co- producer Lynwood Slim plays some very cool chromatic harp and a complete horn section of Johnny Viau & Troy Jennings blowing down the tent! Come on! Come all! Check out "Almost the Greatest Show on Earth!"

2009- A fixture in the Southern California music scene since the 1980’s, known mostly for his up-tempo 40’s style Jump Blues, Mike Arguello and his band 2000 Lbs of Blues, is doing something a little different this time around with the newly released CD Soul of a Sinner. Arguello isn’t leaving jump blues for good, only stretching his musical muscle and songwriting abilities with something a little edgier and even a little darker than his previous 3 CDs.

Soul of a Sinner is an unpredictable musical journey through a collection of soulfully interpreted, heartfelt songs. Twelve of the 13 songs are original works that run the musical gamut from big-time gritty harmonica blues, to guitar-crunching funky rockers, a smooth Latin-Jazzy number, all the way to a heart-pounding rap honoring the city of New Orleans. Never forgetting their well-loved roots, the band takes you on that journey via a wild, musical tightrope walk led by bandleader Arguello, who, jumps from side to side bouncing you crazily up and down, coming close, but never letting you fall off! This long awaited 4th CD was recorded at Ardent Audio Productions in Torrance, CA, by Rich Wenzel. Over a long weekend this past February, Arguello and Wenzel gathered together a powerhouse lineup of well known musicians all of whom have been or are 2000 Lbs of Blues band members.

Those players include: Michael Arguello ~ Vocals, Acoustic guitar Rich Wenzel ~ Piano, Keyboards (Dave Mason Band) Kirk Fletcher ~ Guitar (Fabulous Thunderbirds, Charlie Musselwhite) Gonzalo Bergara ~ Guitar (Jon Jorgensen, Dan Hicks) Bobby Tsukamoto ~ Bass (John Trudell, Jesse Ed Davis) Tom Fillman ~ Drums (Spencer Davis Band) Additional musicians: Eric Von Herzen ~ Harp (Social Distortion, Walter Trout) Johnny Mastro ~ Harp (The Mamma’s Boys) Scott Martin ~ Saxophones Andrew Carney ~ Trumpet Walter Wagner ~ Trombone Oliver C. Brown ~ Percussion Jesse MacLeod ~ Rap Master ~ Background Vocals ~ Teresa James, Neysa J. Mathews, Ptolemy Mathews, Marcia Mathews.

“It was important to me to maintain the rawness and excitement of a live performance as well as a level of soulful grittiness for this CD. Having everyone in the studio together, recording live, collaborating to get just the right feel as well as sound, really paid off,” says Arguello. To be able to bring so much talent into one room at one time is what really made SOUL OF A SINNER come alive.”
