This is an interesting Discussion, but the topic is "Who is the NEXT Great Blues Guitarist". With a few exceptions everyone is talking about those who are already the great blues guitarist.
Jake Haldenwang, Sarah Cole, Conrad Oberg-these are some of next generation "NEXT" great blues guitarists-keep your eyes on these teens, they are already great guitar players and getting better all the time.
Tyler Bryant, Davey Knowles, are making waves not tradional blues guitarists but blues rooted. Tyler is the better guitarist but Davey has the voice too.
For me, it's a matter of the mood at the moment. It could be any number of artists too numerous to list... If the artist plays with a passion that shares their heart and soul with the audience, that's what it's all about for me. Check out Innes Sibun, he plays with a passion that is worthy of much praise.
Ive only seen Derek Trucks once, on a video, and he was playing with full rock distorcion, playing thousands of meaningless notes in a way that was so frantic that I had to turn it off. Elvin Bishop said he's the greatest slide player EVER. I think Im missing something here.
There is an up and coming talent from MN by the name of Brandon Scott Sellner. He is representing our state in the 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Here is a video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iecj9p2Eh8c
You can search on You Tube to find more videos. He is, I believe, well on his way to becoming the next great blues guitarist. It is truly hard to put into words what it's like to see him performing live. In July alone, I've watched him open for Robert Cray, Los Lonely Boys, and The ARC Angels. Brandon is insanely talented-I'm one of his hard-core fans and love to spread the word! I'm confident you'll be hearing more about him in a big way.
