We had our first guest in our Blues Jam in this Year: bass player Roger Brant, from Vancouver, Canada. He was jamming with us last Friday 29 and later on Sunday he was the special guest on my radio blues show, dedicated to canadian blues: The twisters, Downchild Blues Band, James Harman, etc. NOW we have here harp player Derek Caine from Halifax, Canada too, he alreday went to our rehearsals and was jamming with us, hopefully he will stay more time so we will have him at our Blues Jam at Casa de Cultura de Centro Havana,ph:8784727, next Friday 28. Any musician interest in come and jam with us is welcome, specially from Canada, we have a lot of friends coming from Canada, because Mr. Bush don`t allow americans to come freely. You can also check previous Discussion: Blues in Havana!
Thanks for pointing me to this forum - it looks like it's pretty new, so let's all spread the word, and watch it grow.
I had a ton of fun hanging out in Havana with you and your musical friends, and jamming at Casa De Cultura was a high point. Doing the Radio Habana show was great too, thanks for translating -- good thing we ran through it, and I tried not to be too long-winded, LOL. I'm just now sending audio portions to some of the artists we covered Sunday: Fathead, Hot Cottage, The Twisters, Big Dave McLean so far... Just a minor correction on what you said: James Harman is not Canadian, nor did we include him... although I did bring you two CDs of his great music. James is based in the Los Angeles area, as far as I know. Tell Mr. Caine I'm sorry I missed him - I sent him an email but he was already gone I guess... anyway now we have the Habana Blues experience to talk about.
Sugar Blue: Does that mean you are coming to Cuba? also -- do you recall playing a gig in Edmonton Canada, in about 1974, you, Louisiana Red, and a local bass and drums? It was in a coffee house called The Hovel -- I was the bass player. By coincidence, I have a friend in Germany who has played with and produced recent things for Red, and I still work with the drummer from that '74 gig. So, greetings from Canada and the distant past! Glad to see we're all still kicking and playing the blues. Roger Brant
It means that I would love to play in Cuba, there are some fabulous musicians from Cuba like Potato(hope I spelled that correctly)the amazing percussionist!! I met him and had the opportunity to jam with him in New York at The Brass Rail,he was a beautiful cat!!!
