It's been a while since Ike passed, but - having respect for the man's important contributions to music - I was bummed to see the first sentence of nearly every story about his death include the word “monster.“ I got the chance to know Ike a little when he was alive and also to write an obit on him when he died that I think had a little more perspective. If anybody's interested, it's at the Gibson.com website. If you go there, click on “Lifestyle” and look for it. Hell, he might have been a mess, he was bad sometimes, but I don't think he was a monster. Daumer was a monster…

Well, just to make it easy, you can find Ted's piece on Ike right here.

I'm with you Ted. The man had his demons, took many wrong turns, and squandered so much of what would have been a great career. But he was a true talent that was trying hard to redeem himself in the end. And the music...sigh...the music. So great.
We can all do the wrong thing at times I hope I won't only be remembered by a few bad things.
