The release marks t he launch of Chicago Blues Records, dedicated to the promotion of orig inal blues songwriters following in the footsteps of Chicago’s legen dary Willie Dixon.\n\n“The Real Guitar Hero” was recorded in Janua ry 2007 in Chicago, and stakes Dupont’s claim as one of the most inn ovative guitarists in blues, featuring 11 songs recorded live with a 6 -piece band, just prior to the release of 2007’s “Ghost Kings of B eale St.” That release had completed a ‘Street Trilogy’ celebrat ing the 3 great cities of the blues (Chicago, New Orleans, and Memphis ).\n\nThe set includes songs from the Trilogy, plus two covers which h ave become mainstays of his live sets, James Brown’s “Cold Sweat and an Albert King arrangement of Smokey Robinson’s “I’ll Be D oggone”. These represent the first two non-original songs guitarist Dupont has recorded, and pay tribute to some of his own heroes, even w hile he’s putting his ‘Delta Crush Guitar’ spin on the material. The record also includes a fine slow blues that has never been previo usly released, “Heaven Eyes”, which had been considered but was no t included on his debut release, “Lake St. Lullaby”.\n\nThe CD rel ease celebrations will feature two long sets with special guests inclu ding vocalist Charlie Brown, Saturday, March 20, at House of Blues at 329 N.
